Sweet to the tongue fornication was,
Sweet, have I swum in the pools of lust;
Swimming in simmering heat of wine,
Shimmering, shining like golden mine.
Bright was the redness of darkness’s light,
Blazed was the hotness of world’s delight;
Best was the tickling of fingers’ strokes,
Beckoning me to a sensual home.
Deep in the sea of my drowning sense,
Drowned, have I looked up on heaven’s den;
Up there You stood with your face in tears,
Up You were lying, awaiting me.
Out of all words was my silent mouth,
Out of all cares for the Lord my God;
Streaming with tears was my face one day,
Searching for mercy from heaven’s gate.
Sweet are the words that Your mouth proclaims,
Sweeter than pleasures of worldly chains;
Stronger than death are Your loving arms,
Strong I’d forget all those evil charms.
Better were days when You lived with me,
Better, I’d wish You won’t leave me here;
Bright is my path should You serve my light,
Best are the times should You light my life.
